About Minzenmay Poeta

Embracing Heritage and Craftsmanship: The Minzenmay Legacy Unveiled

Minzenmay Poeta traces its roots back to the beginning of Minzenmay Jewellers, nestled on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula—a testament to three generations of unwavering family dedication. In 1911, Wilhelm Friedrich Minzenmay laid the foundations of exquisite watchmaking in Haifa, Palestine. Following the trials of the Second World War, the family’s journey found a new home in Mornington, Australia, meandering through Belgrave, Victoria, before thriving in the heart of Mornington.  It remains the longest standing small business in Mornington today, and now our legacy extends to the French Quarter in Hastings Street, Noosa Heads.

Guided by Wilhelm’s sons, Kurt and Heinz, the business flourished, marking a pivotal chapter in 1954 as “W. Minzenmay & Sons.” Excellence continued with Heinz, an accomplished watchmaker who garnered accolades and studied at Omega in Switzerland. Tradition and modernisation thrived under Heinz, Cooky, and brother Paul Bergeman into the late 20th century.

In 1992, Paul Minzenmay joined his parents &  sister & seamlessly integrated into the family business, Paul continued evolving into a creative visionary and winning many awards in his field. Throughout his training Paul was recognised as the highest achieving jewellery apprentice in his college, winning the Beazley award (the same award his father won before him), the apprentice section of the JAA design awards, and the overall apprentice of the year at his college. Paul later purchased the family business, he ran this with a former partner before meeting his wife Bridie.

The dynamic partnership of Paul and Bridie initiated in 2011 injecting fresh creativity into the business. They reimagined the shop front, brought a fresh focus towards creative design, breathing new life into the long standing establishment. Taking on numerous apprentices across the years, Minzenmay has supported the success of their trainees who have won awards; such as Apprentice of the Year 3 years in a row & winning the apprentice category of jewellery design competition for two consecutive years, as well as an apprentice winning the Most Outstanding Apprentice Award at Melbourne Polytechnic.
